I – Farming
Farming industrialisation opportunities are great and there are quite promising prospects especially with the processing of basic products.
- Cotton
Due to its high quality, cotton produced in Benin is an opportunity for textiles manufacturing development, oil-yielding as well as pharmaceutical with sewing thread, oil and plaster for medical purposes.
- Oil-yielding products
Oil factories, margarine, cosmetic industry are all processing opportunities thanks to palm oil, cotton seed, shea, coconut trees etc….
- Cashew apples
Well known for its high quality, cashew apple produced in Benin, gives cashew nuts with a unique taste which are also used in the pharmaceutical industry for their properties and potential to be used as insecticides, fungicides, bactericides.
- Fruits
Benin fruits field offers high prospects with possibility to set up tinning and dehydration factories, manufacturing concentrated fruit juices and also fruit-based drinks. The pineapple example is particularly interesting.

- Fishing
The prawn business is growing rapidly. Prawns shelled in Benin are a leading brand on the European market and shrimps are well-known for their excellent quality. There are many opportunities to increase the value of seafood by processing them fresh, frozen, smoked or cooked.
II – Mining resources
Several explorations have helped identify gold, iron phosphates deposits and also hydrocarbon. This is business prospect for fertilizer output (phosphates), gas, oil, kerosene output as well as any other by-products.
III – Building materials
The subsoil in Benin is rich in materials such as chalk, marble, clay, ornamental stones, all these items allow considering developing a building manufacture (paints, tiles, white cement, floor covering…).
